About

Updated August 2026

I’m a second-time founder and a former software engineer. I build simple software for complex businesses, which has turned out to be the only thing I want to do.

I came to the US at nine years old. My first computer was a Windows ME machine I assembled out of parts from a Goodwill, on AOL dial-up. I spent the first decade of my career shipping other people’s software — consulting, then education technology — before I started building my own.

Today I’m CEO and co-founder of Mr. Task, which lets a contractor with one truck run the same operation as one with four hundred. I’m also a general partner at R10K Capital, a residential fund that turns distressed houses into affordable ones and runs every renovation through our own software — a useful arrangement, because it makes me my own least forgiving customer.

Along the way I’ve been an angel investor in more than ten companies, and I sit on a small number of boards. The decisions I’m proudest of are mostly unglamorous ones: rebuilding our pricing around the smallest customer in the market while everyone in the category was moving upmarket, and choosing to sell work to our customers rather than only selling them tools to manage it.

If there’s one thing I’m useful for, it’s this: I help vertical software companies work out what their smallest customers will actually pay for — and help their founders get to an exit.

I write here about the systems small companies run on. Some of it is about the trades, some about operating cadence, some about selling a company. I try to only publish things I’ve actually done.

Email is the way to reach me: t@timtesluck.com. I live in it and reply to most of it. I don’t take calls without an agenda, and I treat LinkedIn DMs as spam.
